My name is Celia Carr and I’m a current Public Relations student at Niagara College in Welland, Ontario. I previously studied English Language and Literature at Brock University.
Studying English Language and Literature is where I became more confident in my views on feminism through exposure to early English feminist writers like Mary Wollstonecraft (who I happen to share a birthday with), Virginia Woolf and American writers like Kate Chopin, the writer of one of my favourite feminist novels, The Awakening.
I also took a strong interest in queer studies which are inherently linked to feminist movements. Reading stories from people who experience a life differently from those who are privileged by white, heteronormative ideology is important to me and something to which I will continually expose myself.
Women Weekly will examine women’s and feminist issues as they occur in current events, whether it is a big news story or a smaller story with less exposure, in an effort to bring about more clarity about the issue and to highlight their importance.
